The outlook for spring 2008 can be summed up in one word: “Exciting!” Returning athletes include Jeff Buller, senior from Inman, the 2007 NAIA national javelin champion as well as a three-time KCAC champion and school record holder in javelin. Joining him will be sophomore David Daugharthy, Iola, an All-American javelin thrower who placed sixth at the 2007 Nationals last year, as well as Drew Crosson, junior from Minneapolis, in hurdles, Scott Goering, sophomore from Pretty Prairie, in long jump and triple jump, Reed Hammond, sophomore from Hesston, in 100 m, 800 m and long jump, and Dakota Sorensen, junior from Crestone, Colo., in discus and hammer.

For the women, Bethel returns two-time conference champion Kristen Schrag, junior from Moundridge, in the 800 m, and All-Conference distance runner Natasha Esau, sophomore from Hutchinson, who between the two of them came in ahead of three other teams at last year’s KCAC championships.

The track and field teams look forward to the contributions of a number of new competitors: Jared Bienline, junior from Brookings, S.D., transfer from South Dakota State University, distance running; Mervin Brookins, sophomore from Elk Grove, Calif., Ross Kelsey, freshman from Haven, Jessica Reger, freshman from Flagstaff, Ariz., and Cindy Riedel, freshman from WaKeeney, sprints; Lacy Fyler, junior from McPherson, transfer from Kansas State University, hurdles; Shane Greer, freshman from Whitesboro, Texas, and Jordan Regehr, senior from Halstead (returning from a injury that kept him out of competition in 2007), 400 m; Amanda Hiebert, freshman from North Newton, long jump and sprints; Garrett Hiebert, freshman from Goessel, javelin; Daniel Klaassen, freshman from Whitewater, high jump; and Kenton Tennal, sophomore from Centralia, transfer from Peru State University in Nebraska, pole vaulting.

Bethel has three home meets scheduled for this year and will host three high school meets in addition.
