About the BC Athletics Website
What Web browsers does the BC athletics Web site work with?
The Bethel College athletics Web site should work as intended with properly configured, current versions of any of the popular browsers. We have tested it with recent versions of Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Opera, Safari and Konqueror. It has been tested using Microsoft Windows, Macintosh OS X and Linux. If you suspect that your browser is not up to date, follow the link for your browser to update it. All of the popular Web browser producers provide free updates and it only takes a few minutes. Our Web server statistics indicate that nearly 95% of all visitors to our Web site are already using fully compatible Web browsers.
For maximum compatibility with our Web site and a safer Web experience in general, we recommend a browser based on the open, standards-compliant Gecko or KHTML rendering engines. These browsers include Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Safari and Konqueror. In particular, Firefox is available for free for Windows, OS X and Linux.
If you must use an older Web browser, you will still be able to access all of the content on our Web site. The presentation simply may not look as nice. Specifically, not all features will work correctly in versions of Netscape Navigator prior to 7.0 or in versions of Internet Explorer prior to 6.0.
What additional software do I need?
To view the 3-D panoramas of our facilities, you will need to have a recent (1.4 or later is best) version of the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. If the panoramas don’t load correctly, you can download the newest version of the Java Runtime Environment for free.
What computer do I need to view the BC athletics Web site?
Any computer capable of running a current version of one of the browsers mentioned in the previous answer should be fine. For the best experience, however, your computer’s monitor should be running at a resolution of at least 1,024 pixels by 768 pixels. Nearly any computer purchased new in the last five years will already be configured this way.
What technologies does the BC athletics Web site use?
We’ve tried hard to build the athletics Web site using open, published standards for data communication on the World Wide Web. Our pages utilize XHTML (eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and, to a much lesser extent, ECMAScript (JavaScript) and Java. The use of well-defined standard technologies, rather than browser-specific proprietary technologies, gains several benefits. First and foremost, it makes our Web site available to as many people and as many different access methods as possible. Second, the use of presentation standards like CSS helps ensure that our pages are as efficient and will require as little bandwidth to transmit as possible.
The making of the Bethel College athletics Web site
The current Bethel College Web site was built and developed from the ground up by the departments of Information and Media Services and Institutional Communications over the course of seven months. Most photos that appear on pages within the site are the works of David Dinell, Dave Eulitt and Vada Snider. Directory photos are by Darren Decker.
