Mark Fox

Mark Fox, head coach

Mark Fox will begin his third year as head women’s basketball coach at Bethel College. Fox received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kansas in 1986. His first teaching and coaching job was at Newton High School, where he coached middle school football and tennis as well as high school basketball and baseball. During his four years there, both the basketball and baseball teams competed in state tournaments.

Fox then became an assistant men’s coach at Bethel College for one year before proceeding to Emporia State University to finish his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. While he was a graduate assistant at Emporia State, ESU won their pre-season tournament and the mid-season tournament in Chico, Calif.

Upon completion of his master’s program, Fox went to Jefferson West High School, where he was an assistant for one year before taking over as head coach for two years. During his tenure, the team experienced their first winning season in 13 years, their first back-to-back winning seasons in more than 20 years and the first state tournament appearance in school history, ending the year with an 18-6 record.

From there, Fox moved on to Halstead High School for three years as the head coach. During the 2000-01 season, HHS won their Rupp Tournament for the first time in 20 years and their first state championship in 49 years, ending the year 22-4. Fox was selected as Boys 3A Coach of the Year by the KBCA.

From 2001 to 2005, Fox served as an assistant for the men's program at Newman University where the Jets twice reached the NAIA National Tournament and were consistently ranked as one of the top 25 programs in the country. He has coached several players who have gone on to play collegiately and/or professionally, including Paul Shirley (JWHS/Iowa State/Phoenix Suns), Dennis Latimore (HHS/Notre Dame), Josh Farmer (HHS/Newman) and current BC men’s basketball player Jordon Regehr (HHS).

Fox and his wife, Susan, live in Newton with their sons, Jerod and Kenton.

Adrian Howie

Adrian Howie, assistant coach

Adrian Howie will begin his third year as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Bethel College. Coach Howie is in charge of perimeter player development as well as control of the defense of the Threshers. Additionally, Coach Howie recruits southern Kansas and helps with scouting of future opponents.

Howie was a four-year letter winner as a member of the men’s basketball team. He helped lead the men’s basketball team to a KCAC championship and its first-ever trip to the national tournament in 2003. Howie was a three-time all-conference performer and a two-time Academic All-Conference and Academic All-American.

Howie is a third-grade teacher at South Breeze Elementary School in Newton. He resides in Maize with his wife, Kristen.

Adrian Howie

Brian Huxman, assistant coach

Brian Huxman comes to Bethel College after serving as assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach for the past four years at Newton High School. During his time at Newton, the varsity team won three league titles, went to the state tournament three years and won the class 5A state title in 2006. The varsity record during that time was 70-22, while the JV went 65-15.

Huxman is a 1995 graduate of Newton High School and a 1999 graduate of Bethel, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications. He currently works for Mid-America Youth Basketball and as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Stucky and Associates in Newton. He and his wife, Cori, live in Newton and have a son, Lucas.

Coach Huxman will be in charge of the JV program along with helping with the day-to-day operations of the basketball program.
